چکیده

ixodidae family members have got their importance due to their ability to transmit different pathogens to their hosts. there are some losses due to their direct blood feeding that may lead to anemia, tick paralysis and hide damage too. in this study three geographical strains of hyalomma were collected from fields. they have been reared at laboratory in incubator and on rabbit and sheep for blood feeding. different characteristics related to their life cycle have been studied and data were put in special tables. both strains act as two host ticks and species diagnosis was confirmed as h. anatolicum anatolicum. the preovipositon periods were 7 days and 4 days for eshtehard and boushehr strains respectively. minimum durations for whole life cycle under optimal conditions are 100days and 76 days for eshtehard and boushehr strains respectively. it has been concluded that these strains could have three and 4.8 generations per year for eshtehard and boushehr strains respectively. minimum duration for whole life cycle under optimal conditions for lorestan strain was 75 to 80 days. starvation tolerance times were 220 and 162 days for adult stages of eshtehard and boushehr strains respectively. total eggs laid for a female tick (boushehr strain) was (6000±150) and a 0.07 milligram weight for one egg was calculated.

Occurrence of morphologic variability in tick Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum (Acari: Ixodidae)

BACKGROUND: Taxonomy and identification of the ticks in the genus Hyalomma, the most significant vectors of animal and human pathogen agents, have always been debatable. Scientists believe that variation within the taxa of the genus Hyalomma is the most important factor which causes misidentification. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to identify valuable characters for male H. anatolicu...

Immunization of cattle against Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum using larval antigens.

Development of immunity in cross-bred (Bos taurus x Bos indicus) calves against Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum, vector of bovine tropical theileriosis, was studied using larval antigen (LS) in Freund's complete adjuvant (FCA). Calves immunized with LS + FCA showed significant rejection of larvae (57.25 +/- 6.8) and nymphs (45.75 +/- 5.16). Abnormally fed larvae (11.4 +/- 0.8) and nymphs (8.25 +...

High infection rates of the tick Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum with Trypanosoma theileri.

A crossbred calf (3 months old) obtained from a farm where regular control of ticks was practised and found to be free of blood parasites was inoculated with 20 ml pooled blood collected from four field cattle which had very low Trypanosoma theileri parasitaemias (one parasite per 70 microl blood as determined by the haematocrit centrifugation technique). Trypanosoma theileri was present in the...

Detection of midgut antigens of Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum tick using SDS-PAGE and Western blot

Ticks are important ectoparasites which are a considerable threat to human beings and to animals all overthe world. Enormous economic losses annually occur in livestock production around the world as a result oftheir existance. One of the ways to control ticks and tick-borne diseases is to introduce resistance to theseectoparasites through immunization. For identification of the putative protec...

Proteases Detection of invitro Culture of Midgut Cells from Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum (Acari: Ixodidae)

Proteases play a key role in protein digestion in ticks and other haematophagous insects. Our understanding of blood meal digestion in digestive system of ticks can be very useful for better understanding of basic rules for control of ticks. Cells of the midgut endocytose blood components. Blood proteins uptake by midgut cells, suggesting the presence of proteases in the midgut cells. In this...
